Tailoring & Dressmaking course have been designed with the best interest of the trainees. We do not want only to teach the IDPs , we want to empower, encourage and support on their journey. We want to see their success and help them by providing personal guidance and counselling to all our IDPs
Sewing for a better life: Internally displaced persons regain hope.

•Sixty (60) Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Girls have successfully completed tailoring Skills training. The one (1) year level of skill of each trainee has acquired to a satisfactory level.
• The training was carried out in Kumba. The area is situated in Meme Division in the South West Region where many IDPs are hosted. Due to financial crises and limited opportunities they were unable to undertake vocational and skills training.
• One training center for the training was established. The training center was selected with the consent of the community
Local training venue helped the IDPs girls to participate in the training easily without any mobility problem.
• A qualified trainer and a resource person training assistant were selected on the basis of their skilfulness, experience and education. Training was 100% practical due to the fact that trainees were mostly uneducated.
The IDPs girls were selected for the training after initial assessment of the level of commitment, trainees’ aptitude, interest and willingness etc.
• The trainees were trained in all the important aspects of the course topics such as * Introduction to sewing machine, *Tools and equipment used in tailoring, *Trade Terminology, *Measurement Taking, *Drafting / Pattern Making, *Basic Stitching, Construction Skills, *Selection of Cloth, *Estimation of Cloth, *Colour concept, *Simple Cutting and Stitching, *Construction skills , *Tailoring skills, *Manipulation and adjustment *Pressing & Packing Skills (Folding), *Designing, *Pattern Making, *Bodice Blocks, *Fittings and Color Concept etc. Furthermore, trainees were also trained on accounting: They were trained on the following topics, * Fundamentals of bookkeeping, *the concepts of market segmentation and marketing strategies. Business Management: *Effective leadership and motivational techniques, communication and social responsibility. The participants took keen interest in all the course contents and termed the training very helpful in opening individual and group enterprises at their community household level. At the end of the 1year course, trainees were awarded end of course certificates.
The tailoring classroom is fully equipped with everything you need for learning tailoring and dressmaking. The Tailoring teacher is demonstrating practical lesson about dress cutting and layouts etc. The IDPs in Tailoring, girls will learn different sewing techniques and styles to make beautiful clothing and accessories. Tailoring Centre Bekumu, Bamusso Sub Division
40 Bamusso adolescent girls were trained on tailoring skills upgrading and engage in employment for income generating .The Training for cutting & tailoring is provided to adolescents girls for providing them with employment. The girls are given three months of training and skills upgrading after which they are evaluated and government recognized certificates are awarded to them. This program is funded by Manos Unidas from Spain. 40 adolescents girls have received training under this program in 2018. After receiving training the girls are able to find employment in local boutiques, start their own tailoring work and some are even found employment as trainers. This training continues to be very popular especially for girls and women who can read and write but were unable to complete their high school.
